The increasingly competitive software synthesizer section of the virtual instrument market asks each product one deceptively simple question: what makes you special? For u-he Diva ($179 USD), the answer starts with “sound quality.” Diva meticulously models the eccentricities of the core components of several of the most desirable vintage (and in the case of “Digital” mode, somewhat more modern) synthesizers in the form of their oscillators and filters (typically low-pass and high-pass, but there’s variation) at a level that few other plug-ins even attempt, let alone succeed at.
